Much too often, in my weight loss journey, I’ve been so focused on the end result and the number on the scales. Yes, it is very useful to have a goal in mind which can be used as a motivation for what I’m working towards, but it’s also important to remember that it is a process and also to enjoy that process.

When I’ve worked so hard sticking to meal plans, burning over 1k active calories, drinking 2-3 litres of water daily and then step on the scales and see less than 1kg or no movement in the numbers, I get annoyed, frustrated & disheartened. Forgetting that being able to complete the aforementioned are achievements in themselves, rather than the numbers alone. Once upon a time, I could only drink water by adding some lime cordial and even then, drinking a litre was a stretch. Yet, here I am drinking 2-3 litres of water daily without any added extras.
Enjoying the process for me currently means not worrying about burning 1k calories 5 days a week and simply acknowledging and accepting my efforts on the days when I just can’t complete all the workouts I had planned. In so far as I have done something, no matter how little, it all counts towards the goal.
The last week (Week 2) was really busy both at work and at home and I didn’t get to write an update. But I made sure to stick with my meals and worked out for 6 days out 7. I would never had done that previously, so revelling in this achievement for the moment.
Looking ahead to week 3, my meal prep and workout plans for the week are done. So here’s to another week of enjoying the little things that make the journey.
Have a great week ahead.
